Cherrod’s Travel Tips and Tricks

Top 5 Travel Hacks

“Create unabashed borderless experiences”
— Cherrod

1. The Luggage

Pack light. If possible, travel using only a carry on bag + an empty foldable piece of luggage that can be placed inside your bag. Why? To create room for those unique special souvenirs you will find along your travels. You will appreciate not being weighted by extra pounds or unnecessary baggage.

Did I mention, you will also save money on flights and extra luggage fees?

2. The Dollars

Travel with American dollars. Carrying denominations of twenty dollar bills or less will serve you well.  American dollars are accepted everywhere and most times, the exchange rate is a value add. If you are traveling internationally, a process of duality may exist: exchanging money from your home currency to the local one, and then again into U.S Dollars – in effect, paying an exchange rate twice. Be prepared and carry the widely accepted USD currency.

3. The points

The travel reward credit cards + points. What can I say? Avid Fan. Using a credit card with reward points will allow you an opportunity to book flights, hotels and excursions. Allow your money to work for you and use accumulated points towards travel. Points will be the currency of our future. Get ahead of the game!

4. The Negotiation

One Cardinal Rule: Always haggle. Negotiation is your friend. Vendors, in general, have a substantial mark up. So, never pay the first quoted price. Start at half of the first offer and work your magic from there.

If you are clear on what you want, ask locals about pricing expectations. Browse around to understand what other vendors who sell similar products are charging. Stay firm and be willing to walk away.

5. Ask for a Discount

Ask for a discount. Dust off your shyness and make the ask. If you are staying at any lodging accommodations for 3 nights of more, introduce the ask.

Ask for a discount.

Many places around our nation and the world are delighted to give a discount, especially for extended stays. Locals are happy that you are visiting and inevitably contributing to their local economy.
